Recently I worked with Robyn, who is an IT professional. Robyn knew that she needed new head shots – her last one was taken a few years ago at a previous company and I don’t think it really even looks like her, do you?
This head shot doesn’t do Robyn any justice at all!
Robyn had initially called me last year to make an apppointment and then life got in the way. She wasn’t terribly excited about having the session either, not being much of a fan of having her photo taken. This is a common issue for people I find. What I also find is that when I can show someone a great photo of themselves, they feel much more confident, and that belief that they are not photogenic starts to fade.
Robyn came to me armed with a couple of outfit changes and some lipstick. I wouldn’t recommend lipstick for you guys, but for girls, it’s a must! It did take Robyn a little while to warm up to the camera, but once we started chatting and I was asking her all about her marathon running and training she started to relax.

I love the way that we have captured an honest warmth in Robyn’s eyes and smile. Professional head shots don’t have to be serious. You are wanting to make a connection with the viewer, and a smile always helps. Having said that, you don’t want to smile too much or you’ll look a bit suspicious!
Robyn’s choice of clothing says a couple of things about her personality too. She wore a black jacket which shows us that she can be serious and structured, but the pop of green colour shows her creative side as well. The bright red jacket shows us strength and confidence and fun.
Give some thought to the message that you want to send when you are chosing your outfits for your head shot photo session.
Robyn now has a selection of images that she can use for her LinkedIn, Google+ and other business profiles as well as for her FaceBook page or any of her social media profiles as well. Congratulations Robyn on stepping outside your comfort zone and stepping in front of the camera!
