I had the pleasure of covering the Business Golf Group event held at Arundel Hills Country Club yesterday where 80 talented (and some not so talented) and keen golfers turned out for a day of business building in the outdoors.
The event is run regularly at various top courses around South East Queensland by Scott Lyons of SEQ Business Golf. You can find details here http://www.seqbusinessgolf.com.au.
The cooler weather didn’t deter the players. Some members invited new clients or prospective clients and some chose to further develop their business relationships with existing clients. And others chose to use it as a team building exercise with their key staff members.
Although the course was still a bit wet from the rain earlier in the week it was still pretty quick, with putting being somewhat of a challenge for the majority of the players. Arundel was also challenging with it’s permanent wet areas, the many water obstacles throughout the course, and I know I saw a few “fishermen” hoping to retrieve their ball from the 6th hole.
I was stationed at the 7th hole with my fabulous new friends Annie from YoozUs Virtual Assistants http://virtualadministrationassistant.com and Malcom from local community radio station Juice FM http://www.juice1073.com.au . Annie and Malcolm were witnesses for the “$30,000 Hole-In-One” competition, which sadly we didn’t see anyone take out. But we had a lot of fun hanging out and talking to the players as they came through.
With regards to photography for the event, I mostly used my 85mm prime lens, wide open to f2.0 to get the fastest possible shutter speed for the action shots. As it was an overcast day, the light levels were pretty low, particularly later in the afternoon. From about 3:30 onwards I started to increase my ISO settings, in steps all the way up to 1600 for the last of the players, who came through after 5pm. A 1600 ISO does create a grainy look, but I really wanted to freeze the action where I could. For sports photography this is usually the result you are looking for. The light was also very cold in the late afternoon so I did warm it up using Adobe Photoshop in post-processing. I had set my camera to shoot in both “RAW” and “JPEG” format to allow me to adjust exposures and white balance if needed. I could also have adjusted the “white balance” setting on my camera – I would have set it to “cloudy” to give a warmer tone to the images.
